Job Purpose
The main purpose of the Cashier role is to provide exceptional customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a smooth and accurate checkout experience. The cashier will record transactions, process payments, and uphold company standards in line with Dis-Chem’s policies and operating procedures.
As the face of the brand at checkout, you will ensure that every customer leaves satisfied and confident in their shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem Pharmacies, your duties will include:
Delivering excellent customer service at all times
Processing sales transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system
Ensuring compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures
Handling cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty transactions with precision
Establishing professional relationships with customers to ensure repeat business
Reporting any customer complaints or compliments to supervisors or management
Maintaining the required customer turnover rate per hour
Keeping informed about current sales, promotions, and store specials
Ensuring proper cash flow management and security of till contents
Processing product exchanges and returns according to policy
Ensuring all stock leaving the store has been scanned and paid for
Adhering to Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication and service principles
Reporting suspicious activity and maintaining security awareness
Keeping the checkout area clean, organized, and professional at all times

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)
Minimum of 6 months’ experience as a cashier or in till operations
Computer literate (MS Office)
Good numerical and reconciliation skills
Strong command of English (verbal and written)
Basic customer service knowledge
Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
